Nursery: Part II

After picking out the crib and the theme, we moved on to finding a glider or rocking chair.

I quickly realized that I hated all of the conventional glider options and was not willing to spend the money to get a designer one. When I saw Mrs. Wigglebottom's post turning a regular IKEA armchair into a rocker for her nursery I knew it was the perfect solution for us as well.

We picked out the IKEA Ektorp JennyLind chair in grey and were able to find one in almost mint condition for a fraction of the price on kijiji.

Once we got it home, we both found the chair really comfortable as is so we actually decided to wait until the baby arrives before we spend the money on a glider or rocker base.

Originally, we intended to use my Baba's vintage sewing machine as a side table but after sitting in the room for a couple weeks we felt that it just did not suit the room. Neither did her vintage lamp that I have been trying to find a home for forever.

On a trip to IKEA for cabinets for our laundry room (which I will post on one day soon!), we spotted a Hemnes nightstand that we new was a much better fit - plus the colour was the perfect match to the crib!

The lamp got replaced with a tall glass lamp base that I found on clearance at Target paired with a simple white linen shade.

Ever since seeing the IKEA Ribba Photo Ledges Sarah used as a bookshelf on Daffodil Designs I knew that it was the perfect solution for the short wall that the rocker would be sitting against. Then the space could grow into a reading nook perfect for bedtime stories.

The shelves are already filled with books!

The spot has quickly become one of the dogs favourite spots in the house… boy are they in for a surprise!

Nursery: Part I

There were two things I knew I wanted in the nursery long before we even found out I was pregnant.

First: a Jenny Lind crib.

Second: prints from Sharon Montrose's Animal Print Shop.

The Jenny Lind crib posed a bit of a problem since they are not readily available in Canada. The stores that do sell them want close to $400 for the same crib that sells for $175 at Walmart and Target in the US. We thought about making a trip across the border to pick one up but began to watch for one on kijiji in the meantime.

It wasn't long before I noticed a posting for a discount warehouse in Edmonton that was selling the cribs for $199! I quickly emailed my brother to ask him to pick me one up. The limited store hours posed a problem for him so he in turn asked my cousin Sean to help out. Sean, thankfully, was able to make it to the store before they sold out. Brian then gave the crib to Dave as his birthday present. Dave surprisingly thought it was one of the best birthday presents ever.

A lot of effort for a crib but it was worth it. I love it! Thanks Sean and Brian!

The only issue with the Sharon Montrose prints was choosing from all of the cute animals.

I pretty much wanted every animal on the website so I let Dave pick out the prints. He decided he wanted to go with a 'Canadian Wilds' theme (so that our baby would become familiar with the wildlife in the mountains it will inevitably be spending so much of its' time in) and settled on the baby fox, deer, bear and porcupine.

With the two most important elements settled we began work on bringing together the rest of our neutral woodland animal nursery.
