Avery {10 months}

{10 months}

I can not believe my little man is already 10 months old! He is starting to look/act so much like a toddler - where has my baby gone?!!?

It has been a big (busy) month. He started the month visiting Vancouver and Tofino and finished it with a trip to Phoenix with mom and grandma.

Growth:

At his doctor's appointment this week he measured in at 18.5 lbs and 28". That means he has only gained 1 lb since his 6 month appointment but has grown 2"!

Dave and I are both surprised/skeptical that he only weighs 18.5 lbs... if my sore arms and back are any indication! Dave had guessed he would be closer to 22 lbs. I guess he must seem so heavy because he is so mighty. You never get to just hold him, you always have to wrestle to hang on to him.

His weight has dropped back down to the 10th percentile which the doctor says is not uncommon in kids as active as Avery. She kept commenting on how muscular and strong he is though!

His head is in the 90th percentile... which explains why it is already difficult to get 12 month shirts over his head. However if it was not for his cloth diapers he would probably still be in 6 month pants. He is just finally growing into his 9 month sleepers.

Eating:

Avery continues to eat anything that is put in front of him. He eats so well I was actually concerned he might be overeating until we got him weighed....

Guess he just needs that may calories to fuel his busy body!

Favourite Foods: peanut butter, oranges, tomatoes, salmon, eggs

Milestones:

Avery is still not walking but has recently taking a strong interest in it. He now spends a good portion of his day walking laps of the main floor pushing a wooden toy cart.

Still no real definitive words but he babbles non-stop. He is very loud and very vocal. He loves to tell stories to the dogs while in the car or lecture mom and dad at the dinner table. He has mastered pointing so now he can communicate quite well what he is interested in. We also think he is starting to make up his own sign language...

He still only has two teeth.

Firsts:

He passed his first session of swimming lessons this month and got his first 'report card'. We are looking into registering him in gymnastics in January.

He summited his first mountain - Mount Ozzard near Ucluelet, BC. Only 766 m but still a mountain ;)

He saw his first salmon run and his first bears in the wild.

Sleeping:

Avery is now consistently sleeping from 6:30 PM till 7 to 8 AM, only waking up once around 5 AM to feed. A couple nights recently he has skipped the 5 AM feeding and slept right through!

The biggest change is his ability to stay up late on occasion. In the past it had been difficult for us to go out or have people over in the evenings because of Avery's early bedtime. But recently he has been able to handle staying up late to socialize without having a meltdown or being completely irritable the next day.

I used this to our advantage for Day Light Savings Time. The evening before the time change I brought him over to a girlfriend's house and kept him up late. He slept in till 8 AM the next morning!

Personality:

Avery seems to be getting more and more outgoing every day. New situations or places do not phase him at all. We have been touring day homes and daycares recently and he makes himself right at home playing with the toys or other kids. He was not even phased by six days of shopping in Phoenix. He would flirt with all the seniors from the cart, dance in front of the mirrors or hide in clothing racks.

He continues to be a daredevil. He loves to climb, jump, swing, fly. He even loves the big slide at the pool. He is always on the move and has us on the move. We are constantly sprinting across the room to catch up with his speedy crawling.

He is amazingly observant. He loves to watch the birds and squirrels in the back yard. He loves to study books, puzzles, latches, anything that moves...

He has recently started to be clingy to me when he is upset, worried or tired.

Fall

We were recently in Vancouver and had the fortune to hit the most spectacular fall day in Stanley Park.
